Aria Tari Listening Party

Aria Tari will be releasing an EP of all the new stuff they’ve been working on. The V Bar will be hosting the party on Friday, August 29th, at 9pm. Expect drink specials, and body shots off of Walker’s skinny little rocker butt. Look for Melancholy Eyes, and a live show soon.

‘Bama Art

From Seattle’s The Stranger

Barack Obama is visual culture’s number-one subject right now. Combining fine art, street art, and folk art- YouTube seems as good a folk medium as any-the output is unprecedented: There has never been this much art made about a presidential candidate.

This topic came up in a conversation yesterday between myself and a friend. From the Obey ‘Progress’ image that I saw wheatpasted to buildings in Los Angeles, to the Ron English image that currently graces the cover of the Newspeak . Neither of us know how to feel about it, but acknowledged the movement as being very curious. I’m not sure which artist’s see this as an opportunity to capitalize upon current events, and which artist’s are in it for social change. Or maybe ‘Bama, being the good looking guy that he is, simply has a face that begs to be iterated as fine art.

I’m curious to see what others think.

Buddy Wakefield at Edifice Gallery

From his site…

‘’BUDDY WAKEFIELD is the two-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion featured on NPR, the BBC, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, and signed to Strange Famous Records. In 2004 he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Finals thanks to the support of anthropologist and producer Norman Lear then successfully defended that [arbitrary] title at the International Poetry Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands against the national champions of seven European countries with works translated into Dutch.

In 2005 he won the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship again and has gone on to share the stage with nearly every notable performance poet in the world in hundreds of venues internationally from The Fillmore in San Francisco and Scotland’s Oran Moore to San Quentin State Penitentiary, House of Blues New Orleans and CBGB.'’

Richard Arnot Gets the Cover of The Newspeak

It’s officially hit the stands. One of the bestest covers ever, IMO. Plus it’s The Sex Issue, and it has a whole page of dirty haikus like:

take off your panties.
What? You wear none?! You bad girl!
get down on all fours.

and

not yet don’t cum yet
just hold on for a minute
I’m cumming with you

and here’s the revised cover
